Recently, we observed Memorial Day. We remembered and honored all those who gave their lives for our country when they served in the Armed Forces. I hope that in the middle of picnics and other activities we all took a moment to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Memorial Day is also seen as the official start of summer. It’s hard to believe that it’s summer – except when I go outside and it’s over 90 degrees in the shade! The time just seems to pass so quickly. Soon it will be time for Annual Conference, another sign that summer is here.
Many times, summer is the time that we kick back and relax. But not here at Trinity!! We have a mission trip this summer and Vacation Bible School. We have our Dinner Theater on June 8th.
We’ll continue to have hot dog lunches, Sunday school classes, 2nd Chance on Wednesday Nights and worship.
I think it’s an exciting time to be here in Danville and a part of Trinity UMC. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Holy Spirit is going to move. I’m looking forward to where Jesus is going to lead us.
I don’t think I’ve ever lived in a city where there are so many people, so many organizations trying to make life better for others. Helping children get an education. Rebuilding neighborhoods. Downtown being redone and built back up with new businesses. Leaders working hard to bring jobs here. Police creating a ride along program for local clergy.
And we get to be a part of that! We get to be Jesus’ witnesses and disciples. I’m starting to see new possibilities for ministry in this community. It’s an exciting time to be here to serve God together.
And to do this, we must be ONE. All working together. All with the same goal – to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
In John 17:20-26 Jesus prays to God that we all will be ONE. 20 “I ask …that they may all be one. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one [so] that they may become completely one.
Jesus tells us that we must ALL BE ONE. To make new believers, to teach people, to make disciples, we must be one. It’s time for us to become one.
Dear Father, help us to be one so that the world may see your love in us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
